As Christians, we are not blind to injustice, brokenness, and sin in our world. We have encountered the COVID19 pandemic, and recently the murders of Ahumud Aubery and now George Floyd. There are many more names and more situations. At times, we can ask the question, how long Lord? Well, our Biblical worldview has the direct answer to evil and suffering in the world we face. I will be sharing more about this in the message tomorrow. We should all grieve when a fellow image-bearer loses their life. We should also grieve when wickedness abounds among us. No matter if it is the wickedness of sinful men, politics, or systems. The Scripture says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” Proverbs 14:34.
Dr. Tony Evans said, “This is the time for a national reset to address our cultural pandemic. A reset not based on societal patchwork, which produces no long-term impact, but rather on a spiritual foundation influenced by a repentant, obedient, and unified church.”
Sadly in our country, we have viewed humanity wrongly. The same view of man that says humanity has no value at birth and that humans were property; can easily have the worldview that specific individuals have zero value in life.
The same deficient view that said humans deserve to die because of how they’re conceived, can view fellow human beings as a threat while alive.
Yet, a robust biblical view of man says all people are created in the image and likeness of God. It also says, fellow image-bearers matter, and any ideology, whether individual, cultural, system, or political, that speaks differently is a threat to us all. As followers of Christ, our lens that we should see everything through is the Word of God. We bring our anger, fears, and frustrations under the authority of the Scripture.
Amid the injustice we face and the sorrow of brokenness, we must continue to hope and trust in the Lord. We know that sin has left our world broken, but we serve a God who entered into our suffering and knows how we feel. A robust biblical theology seeks to proclaim the message of the Gospel, calling men and women to repentance and seeks to do good in their community and towards their neighbor, as well. The Lord told the Israelites while in exile, “Pursue the well-being of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the LORD on its behalf, for when it thrives, you will thrive.” Jeremiah 29:7
As you process this time, continue to trust the Lord, proclaim the Gospel, love your neighbor, and seek the community’s good. Remember, our end is to glorify Christ and see men reconciled to the Lord and each other. The message of Christ is available to all men; every ethnic group. Two years ago, I preached a message on what the Bible says about the sin of racism. If you would like to listen to that message, you can find it here: What Does the Bible Say About Race
